Paul Luchsinger went to a Walt Linderman steer wrestling school in Bozeman, Montana, in 1976. The following year in 1977, he purchased his permission and began competing full-time as a card holder. He was able to compete in the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) between 1979 until 1981, and 1984 until 1985. He had his finest season in 1981, when he placed 7th in the global rankings.
